MiG-23 'Flogger'
Fighter in pictures (page 2)

Here are more photographs of the MiG-23 'Flogger' fighter in our collection.  As stated before, all were taken at some time when the aircraft was in active service during the Cold War.  Each photo is accompanied by a detailed  description so that a greater understanding of the MiG-23 'Flogger' can be gained.

The MiG-23E

Here is a photo of a Libyan MiG-23 in flight.  It is armed with four AA-2 'Atoll' air to air missiles.  The photo was taken by the US Navy on August 18, 1981.

MiG-23 profile

This photo of a Soviet MiG-23 was taken by the US Navy July 5th 1984.  It offers a great view of the Flogger in flight.  Details such as its missiles, extra fuel tank, and fully extended wings can be easily seen here.

Flogger from below

Here is a picture of a MiG-23 'Flogger' flying high overhead somewhere in the Sea of Japan.  The plane's four air-to-air missiles can be seen as well as two drop tanks.  The picture was taken on 2 October 1989.

Flogger in the Distance

This picture was taken over the Sea of Japan on 9 October 1989.  It shows a MiG-23 in the distance.  The contrast in the photograph reveals few details other than the aircraft number, but it is still a significant addition to our growing collection.

A MiG-23 Element

In this picture a pair of MiG-23 'Floggers' can be seen climbing into the sky somewhere in the Soviet Union.  No date or location was given with the Soviet source picture.

A highly retouched MiG-23 picture

Here we have a pair of MiG-23's coming in at very low altitude.  Unfortunately, the picture has been heavily retouched for propaganda purposes.  The two planes are too close together, the sun rays are clearly artificial, and the ground is not original to the aircraft photograph are just a few of the 'anomalies' in this picture.  Even so, it is a good example of Soviet military propaganda.

Ready on the runway

This picture shows a much more realistic view of a MiG-23 'Flogger' (number 51) as it sits on a runway somewhere in the Soviet Union.  As with many of our Soviet source photographs, no date or location was given with this picture.
